Acupuncture Taster Session
Acupuncture is a treatment derived from ancient Chinese medicine. Fine needles are inserted at certain sites in the body for therapeutic or preventative purposes.
It is used in many NHS GP practices, as well as in most pain clinics and hospices in the UK.
Acupuncture is often seen as a form of complementary or alternative medicine.
This taster session is a chance to see if you would be comfortable taking part in a six week therapeutic programme, launching in May 2025.
“It's helped me relax. Reconnect with my body and spend time observing my body…”
Attendee of our autumn sessions
We are working with Michelle Croston, HIV Clinical Nurse Specialist, who is a trained acupuncturist to provide this taster session for people who haven’t tried it before and want to know more about it, or how the needles feel in your ears.
The therapy we are delivering is 'auricular' or ear acupuncture. Fine needles are placed in different parts of the ear to stimulating sensory nerves under the skin. This results in the body producing natural substances, such as pain-relieving endorphins. It's likely that these naturally released substances are responsible for the beneficial effects experienced with acupuncture.
