HIV Action Plan for England 2025 - 2030: a renewed focus for a world where HIV holds no one back
Everyone at George House Trust welcomes the new HIV Action Plan commitments and the £170 million allocated by government to make them a reality and work to end HIV stigma and new HIV transmissions by 2030. We’re keen to work with partners, commissioners, allies and supporters to successfully implement the Action Plan so that all people living with HIV can live healthy and confident lives.
We back the new and extended measures to improve access to testing which will identify new cases early and enable people to get the treatment they need at the earliest opportunity. We are also pleased to see the renewed focus on tackling HIV stigma, which we know can be as harmful as HIV itself, and which remains a barrier for accessing testing and treatment.
We also fully support the recognition of the importance of targeted support for those not currently engaged in their HIV care. The many challenges people living with HIV face can act as barriers to accessing the treatment and care they need, something we’ve learned from delivering our Intensive Support Programme over the past 5 years. The first ever national programme to find and support people who are not accessing care is an excellent opportunity to ensure all people living with HIV can access treatment and live well. The new commitment to ensure that formula milk is available is something that George House Trust has been championing for years and we’re especially delighted to see that commitment included so that there will be equal access for all families, wherever they live in England.
Darren Knight, Chief Executive, stated: ‘George House Trust proudly backs the implementation of the new HIV Action Plan. Putting people living with HIV at the heart of this work, tackling HIV stigma, and ensuring everyone can live well and stay engaged in care isn’t just important, it’s essential. We’re ready to collaborate with government, health and care partners, and our voluntary sector partners to breathe life into these commitments and work together for a world where HIV holds no one back.’
We’d like to thank the government for listening to the views of our colleagues, volunteers and the people we support through the engagement of the new HIV Action Plan, it’s clear that the voice of people living with HIV has been heard and is at the heart of the plan.
We will continue to work hard across Greater Manchester, Merseyside and beyond to ensure the new HIV Action Plan is delivered successfully and that no one living with HIV is held back.
