Dr Monica Pearl appointed as a new Patron of George House Trust
George House Trust is delighted to announce the appointment of Dr Monica Pearl as a new Patron of George House Trust!
Dr Pearl is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Manchester, specialising in film and literature of the 20th and 21st century.
A New Yorker before moving to Manchester, Dr Pearl is a veteran of the legendary AIDS activist group ACT UP. She brings a lifetime of challenging inequality and campaigning for support for people living with HIV. In Manchester she has supported George House Trust, including during our 40th year, contributing both her academic and activist expertise, and beyond this continues to champion education about HIV across the city.
Chair of Trustees Andrew Sloan said: "Monica has been a long-time activist and friend of our community. From her early years in ACT UP New York to the work she does today here in Manchester. I am delighted that Monica has agreed to be our Patron."
Dr Pearl said: "I am honoured to be appointed as a Patron of George House Trust, in the spirit of George House Trust's long legacy of fighting for the rights and dignity of people living with HIV as well as those who love and support them. I am committed to lighting new fires under us to strengthen - and reignite! - our resistance and resilience."
