Individual Giving Manager

Salary £30,000 per annum
35 hours per week 12 month fixed term contract
Based in Manchester

This is an exciting new role for someone with significant fundraising experience.

George House Trust has been supporting people living with HIV since 1985, and it is no ordinary charity. The governance structures put people living with HIV at the heart of the charity and make them key decision makers. Unsurprisingly, the vibrant LGBT community in Greater Manchester is a great supporter of George House Trust. It is for this reason that the first year of the Individual Giving Campaign will focus on the LGBT community.

You will need excellent knowledge of Individual Giving campaign development, implementation and delivery as well as a proven successful track record in Individual Giving. This is a new post and we are looking for someone who thrives on taking new projects from the planning stage through to completion.

You will find more details about the job and a person specification here and, if you have the skills and experience to join us and wish to apply for the post, please complete the Individual Giving Manager application form.

For an informal chat about this post call the Joint Chief Executive on 0161 274 5650.

The closing date for this post is 5.00 p.m. on Wednesday 7th December 2016.

We especially welcome applications from groups which reflect George House Trusts’ service user groups – HIV positive people (and other disabled people), gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people, people from black and minority ethnic groups, and people from refugee communities. George House Trust’s recruitment and selection procedures reflect our commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. A Disclosure & Barring Service check will be requested, at the same time that a job offer is made.

George House Trust's vision is for all people living in the North West of England to live happy and healthy lives and be free from stigma and discrimination; for all people to know their HIV status and to be HIV aware.

International Day of Older Persons is celebrated on 1st October each year and its aim is to raise awareness about the issues affecting older people.  This year’s theme is 'Take a Stand against Ageism'.  For older people ageism is an everyday challenge and for older people living with HIV the challenge is even greater.

People over 50 and living with HIV in the UK are just as likely to experience age discrimination as HIV discrimination.  Compared to their peers, they may have poorer physical and emotional health, are financially less secure, and are less economically active.  In addition to this they are less likely to be homeowners and are worried about their future health and social care.

The Health, Wealth and Happiness Project works in partnership with Terrence Higgins Trust and supports people ageing with HIV.  We offer group work and workshops that help people develop new skills, support healthy choices and improve financial and emotional wellbeing.  We also provide a peer support service to help people lead more fulfilling lives and give people the opportunity to volunteer within the service.

Additionally, the project also aims to inform age-relevant services about some of the key issues related to ageing with HIV and support with best practice.  One of our partners is Age-Friendly Manchester and we have signed up to their Older People’s Charter and made a pledge to run the Health Wealth and Happiness Project.  To find out more about Age-Friendly Manchester click here.  If you would like more information about the Health, Wealth and Happiness Project or to get involved, please contact Sharon Summers sharon@ght.org.uk

We can help with things like maximising income, find you solutions to your debt problems, help you with talking to creditors, provide welfare benefits advice and support and help to identify grants toward utility debts.

Here’s what some of the people who have already accessed the service have said:
“I would like to say a big thank you for helping me with this matter.  It is a massive worry off my mind I might be able to sleep a bit better now and be able to answer my home phone.”

“Thank you so much Lee. You're a diamond in a sea of coal.”

“Have to say great service and more help and advice than received from either council or job centre.”

“Just to say thank you for helping us to go on the arrears allowance scheme last year, we can confirm that we have now cleared the arrears and will continue keeping up with our bills.  It is such a good feeling.”

If you’ve never accessed the service before, get in touch to find out how we can help you to alleviate the stress of debt and income.

George House Trust has launched a new survey that will help us to understand more about the current situation with HIV stigma and discrimination.  The short survey aims to look at the experiences of people living with HIV, as well as capturing attitudes of the general public who aren’t living with HIV.

People who are living with HIV sometimes speak to us about the impact that HIV stigma has on their lives.  This survey may help to inform future George House Trust programmes and campaigns that we develop to help tackle stigma and discrimination.

You can give us your views by completing the survey here.

The survey closes on Friday 30th September at 9.00am.
