Cheddar Gorgeous

After acting as our ambassador for over ten years, Cheddar Gorgeous is now a Patron at George House Trust.

“Through Pride Parades, fundraisers, events and networking meetings I have enjoyed every moment working with George House Trust. Being George House Trust’s Ambassador has been one of the most rewarding parts of the last ten years of my life. You have helped anchor me, humble me and give a sense of meaning to what can sometimes feel like a fairly fickle escapade. I am so honoured to be taking this next step as Patron with you.

The world of HIV and the discourse around it have changed dramatically in the last two decades. We have moved from a place of darkness, fear and uncertainty, where contracting HIV was a death sentence, to an era of hope, where we finally have the tools to end new transmissions and ensure that people living with HIV lead healthy, confident lives.

However, with this hope comes the risk of complacency. Whilst there have been many advances in the treatment and prevention of HIV, we have a long way to go before we live in a world where HIV holds nobody back. Stigma, legacies of shame and lack of education threaten to undo so much of what has been achieved.

I am proud to be part of George House Trust, working to meet these challenges head on. They have always been willing to ask the question “What next? Where do we need to go from here?” Working with partner organisations, reaching into new communities and understanding that the nexus of issues for HIV positive people stretch beyond a medical intervention, are key to their success. I look forward to continuing our partnership, and amplifying the vital work they do as Patron.

Thank you, George House Trust, for trusting me, believing in me and for looking after us all. Let’s turn attention into action together!"

Cheddar's Iconic Act Up Runway Look

"Let's turn attention into action. This look got a lot of love, it's time to pass that on to the people making a difference every day! ’"

Cheddar understands how HIV has changed and also that fear and stigma still exist. They articulated this on Drag Race by shining a spotlight on HIV activism with this iconic pink triangle runway look which paid homage to the Act UP movement. Cheddar also educated everyone watching that Undetectable Equals Untransmissable.

The way Cheddar used their platform to educate the Drag Race audience and beyond about HIV is extraordinary and exactly what we love, from someone who shares our vision of a world where HIV holds no one back.
