As a Telephone Buddy you will provide a weekly call for up to 60 minutes to someone who is experiencing social isolation.
It is a great way to offer support from home and develop /build on your active listening skills.
A Telephone Buddy can make a huge difference to the happiness and wellbeing of people living with HIV who may feel isolated, or struggle to access our other services.
A weekly call of up to 60 minutes per week, this needs to be within office hours (Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm) and is arranged at a time to suit you and your Buddy.
This role is based at home.
You need to have:
- Good interpersonal skills;
- An understanding of the importance of keeping in touch;
- Ability to listen without giving advice;
- An understanding of the issues faced by people living with HIV;
- An understanding of George House Trust’s safeguarding policies and reporting procedures;
- A commitment to regular check-ins with the Volunteering Manager and Telephone Buddies Lead.
- A commitment to submitting a call summary after each call.

- Any further training opportunities offered, and quarterly volunteer team meetings

The Volunteering Manager and the Telephone Buddies Lead will keep in touch with you via email/over the phone and through volunteer team meetings.
