Aging Well Volunteer
As an Age+ Volunteer, you’ll be supporting the design and delivery of HIV awareness training in residential care homes across Greater Manchester.
The purpose of the role is to ensure social care providers properly understand HIV so they can work confidently to support older people living with HIV.

Advancements in HIV treatment over recent years have meant that increasing numbers of people are growing older with HIV. At George House Trust, currently, approximately 20% of our service users are aged over 55.
As an Age+ volunteer you will support the Project Co-ordinator to design and deliver training to social care providers to ensure staff properly understand HIV, HIV stigma and can work confidently to support people living with HIV in their care.
Key tasks include:
- Developing a ‘kite-marked’ HIV awareness course for residential care homes and social care providers alongside the Age+ Project Co-ordinator;
- Co-delivering HIV awareness training to social care providers across Greater Manchester;
- Providing administrative support for various aspects of the Age+ project;
- Supporting with preparation for training courses;
- Entering evaluation data from training courses.
Time commitment for this role is ad hoc and dependant on training bookings.
2 days in June to be identified with the Age+ Project Co-ordinator to co-develop the training.
Approximately 2 days per month to co-deliver training to social care providers. This may vary.
This role is based in the office at George House Trust and in residential care homes across Greater Manchester.
- Understanding of the needs of older people living with HIV;
- Willingness to travel to different locations in Greater Manchester (own transport not required);
- Good verbal communication skills;
- Willingness to present training in front of small and large groups of people;
- Ability to use MS Excel, Word and Powerpoint (support can be provided);
- Understanding of confidentiality;
- Ability to volunteer in an inclusive and non-judgemental way;
- Reliability, good organisation and time management skills;
- Strong people skills and an interest in working with people;
- An ability to work as part of a team;
- A commitment to attend regular volunteer team meetings.
